Re-Post for Tool #4

I shared a google doc with a coworker. I think it is fantastic that there could be only one document with multiple updates. It is an easier way to have many teachers input and to finish a document that many can use. It can save teachers time by completing it online and not actually meet in person.
I set up my google reader and i find it easier to follow blogs. All the blogs you follow are on on one page so you can read them all at once. it will prompt a response from the reader. While completing this tool I actually found out what the little orange RSS feed icon means (connects to online resource that updates info) Again, this is just an easier way to stay in touch with other teachers ideas/ activities.

Tool 11

Being a good digital citizen means...
1) knowing that we can use multiple sources and not rely on just one (check sources references)
2) as teacher we are modeling and guiding students in preparing them to use tech and
3) having instruction to understand appropriate behavior from inappropriate while using tech (know what behavior is expected when using tech)

As a Pre-k teacher, I model a lot so students understand how to use a computer (mouse, keyboard, what programs to click on) When they accidentaly click on an unknown page or program, they understand that it could be above their level and they tell me or exit the program. At this level I think that using a keboard and mouse properly and navigating through a page that I have modeled and guided them through) shows that their are good digital citizens. As they are learnig to get familiar with a computer, they will have explore different options but if they understand where it could led them to, then they could refrain from it.

Tools Reflection

1. Favorite tools- blog, image generators & mashups, google tools (docs, reader), tagging, social networking, wikis, digital storytelling-- specifically photo story, and of course apps in itouch/ipad. I will specifically use lots of digital storytelling with photo story to create classrooms projects.
2. Teaching in the classroom does not stop with the teacher teaching. After teaching the topic, it can be supported with lots of videos, websites , digital storytelling...etc. There are multiple ways technology can aid in helping a student learn. Todays children are technology children because they not only start at a young age, but they have access to more information online, and gadgets. As teachers, we need to grow to technology to keep up with our students. If we can't keep up with them, the least we can do is teach them how to use technology correctly and appropritately.
3. I was very surprise that I knew very little about what can be done online. I know the basics but after viewing all 11 tools, I am interested in learning more. If there would be more "tools" to view, explore and complete, I would definitely check them out. I always told myself that people spend too much time creating a video when in reality it is very simple (no wonder kids online make videos themselves)

Tool 10

Here are some of the apps that I have read about that seem interesting.
1. ABA Flash Cards - Alphabet By Kindergarten.com
2. ABC Phonics Animals Free Lite -Talking & Spelling Alphabet Flashcards Kids Games By Brain Counts

3. Baby Flash Cards By Dream CortexView

4. abc PocketPhonics Lite: letter sounds & writing + first words By Apps in My Pocket Ltd
5. Toddler Counting Lite - Preschool number adventure By Toddler Tools

The ipad and itouch is an excellent way for the students to develop their fine motor skills and learn at the same time. I would use the apps as a way for students to "play" a game. They would think it's a game but they actually will be learning from that game. The apps can further help them understand what we are learning in the classroom.

Tool 9

By using Jing students can show other students websites they use at home and show them specifically how to get there (with teachers help).

Skype looks like an easy way to communicate with others outside the traditional "phone" line. Students could create pen pals from other classrooms in the district or even outside the country. The interaction from skype can be through live video so the students would be looking at the person they are talking to. This would give the students a sense of what other cultures are like around the country or even the world.

Tool 8

Videos are very good resource when trying to further explain theme or a topic in class. Not only can children be interested in the videos, but can better understand the topic (through visual memorization).
I searched through Blink.com and youtube.com and found these two videos that I will definitely use in my classroom. The first video talks about the alphabet and different objects that start with a specific letter. The video will be helpful in remembering letter names/sounds. The second video is a cute song about shapes. The video goes on and explains the shapes characteristics. Not only will my students learn the name of the shapes, they will also know their characteristics and the vocabulary used to identify each shape.

Tool 7

I love photo story. It is so computer friendly to use. I downloaded the pictures from flickr, looked up my music and photo story puts it together so easily.

I didn't even know I had this program. I will definitely be using this in my classroom.

I created a photostory about the lifecycle of a butterfly. I would let the students help me create the photostory and take all their suggestions. I have music in the background but I would like to have the students narrate the life cycle of the butterfly. This is a great way to get them involved in a fun project.
Here it is, ENJOY!!!

Digital Storytelling is a good way for students to be involved in the classroom and use technology. Not only can they narrate, act out a play or read their stories, they can also be directors and actors and have a finished product inspired by their thoughts and decisions.

Tool 6

Wikis are an excellent way for students to collaborate together. Not only can students create a classroom website for other students to visit, they can also create a website on a certain topic and further discuss it. This can lead to having students be creative and use their imagination while enhanciing their learning.
I checked out a couple of wikis and one of the websites that stood out was
http://mrsibrahim.wikispaces.com/. It is a classroom website where each student had their own link and from the looks of it, the students created their own web page. Is a very good way to motivate kids to write about themselves and have their writing published for others to see.
I think it would be a good idea to have a wiki for each team at our campus. Since we plan together, we can share our book titles, websites, or any other type of information that we discuss and later share the files/documents. As a campus, maybe all teachers can join wiki and have wikispace be a campus newsletter (of some sort) with all the information and events taking place in the future. Wikispaces may also be a good resource for having how to's. (For example, instead of giving us a paper copy of how to upload an app on the itouch, maybe we can have this document saved and be easily access by anyone who needs it)

Tool 5

I really like the delicious website. I like how it organizes the websites which is a time saver. When I signed up I saw a couple of websites that look very interesting. Social networking will be very useful when teachers are searching for ideas. We are always sharing ideas so by using delicious, we are able to make our search easier and faster.
1.
http://www.literacycenter.net/
This websites is multi-lingual meaning that 4 languages can use this website for naming and recognizing letters, playing games and shapes. It would make an excellent websites for children to use in the classroom.

2.
http://www.kindersite.org/Directory/DirectoryFrame.htm
This website can direct you to other websites. It provides games, stories, songs and much more. There are links for both spanish and english. I used the tags spanish and alphabet to locate these websites.

GO AHEAD CHECK THEM OUT!!!
